Althaïr (2023) marks a shift in Parfums de Marly's naming convention — with the maison's roster of celebrated racehorses running thin, this one takes its name instead from Altair, the twelfth-brightest star in the night sky, whose Arabic root translates roughly to "the flying eagle" (the added "h" is widely understood to be a trademark workaround). Composed by Hamid Merati-Kashani and Ilias Ermenidis, it's a modern woody-vanilla-amber fragrance: cinnamon, orange blossom, and cardamom open bright, Bourbon vanilla and elemi resin warm the heart, and a base of praline, ambroxan, guaiac wood, and musk closes it into a smooth gourmand-woody dry-down.
