Naomi Goodsir Bois d'Ascese EDP
Description
Bois d'Ascèse is a smoky incense with the warmth of a peaty whisky. Composed by Julien Rasquinet and released in 2012 as one of Naomi Goodsir's first fragrances, it recalls a wooden church in the hills of New South Wales, Australia, with the countryside around it on fire. It is a childhood memory and a nod to her family's Scottish roots. Tobacco and whisky open it, then Somalian incense, cade wood, amber and cistus labdanum take over. Reviewers describe charred cedar, pipe tobacco and smoked scotch, with the sweetness of amber rising as it wears.
Fragrance Notes
- Notes: Tobacco, Whisky, Somalian Incense, Cade Wood, Amber, Cistus Labdanum
Note: these are the notes the house lists. It does not publish a top, heart and base pyramid. Reviewers also pick up birch tar and scorched cedar.
Performance
Longevity: 10+ hours on skin.
Sillage: Big at first, then it quiets down a little.
Projection: Strong in the opening, then a warm, smoky, amber-sweet trail.
An honest note: it is potent. One or two sprays is enough, and people who do not enjoy campfire smoke usually find it too much.
