Cuir de Chine, composed by Florence Fouillet Dubois for Les Indémodables in 2016, builds its leather character entirely from natural materials rather than a literal hide note. Chinese osmanthus, prized for its apricot-and-suede facet, meets dry tobacco leaf, Egyptian jasmine and herbal clary sage. The effect is buttery, honeyed suede rather than a heavy leather accord, closer to a soft osmanthus-tobacco skin scent.
