Kilian Smoking Hot EDP
Description
Smoking Hot is an apple hookah lounge rendered as a fragrance. Composed by Mathieu Nardin for Kilian Paris in 2023 as part of Les Volutes des Fumées, the house's smoke collection, it opens on tart, almost cidery apple laced with shisha smoke and cinnamon, then hands off to fire-cured Kentucky tobacco and a thick bourbon vanilla. Reviewers reach for the same image again and again: baked apples over a slow fire. It is sweet, dry and smoky at once, and it is unmistakably a cold-weather fragrance.
How It Differs From Kilian Apple Brandy On The Rocks
- Apple Brandy On The Rocks: the apple as a drink: crisp fruit, rum and brandy over cedar and ambroxan, with the boozy side leading.
- Smoking Hot: the apple as smoke: the same fruit pulled through tobacco and vanilla, warmer, darker and considerably heavier.
- Both are apple-forward Kilians, but they are not interchangeable. One is a cocktail, the other is a lounge at 1 a.m.
Scent Character
- Smoky / Tobacco: 29%
- Woody: 29%
- Sweet: 14%
- Fresh (Apple): 14%
- Spicy (Cinnamon): 14%
Translation: smoke and wood carry the fragrance, with the apple and cinnamon riding on top for the first hour or two. The sweetness is tobacco-and-vanilla sweetness rather than candy. It is a gourmand-adjacent smoke scent, not a dessert.
Fragrance Pyramid
Top: Apple, Shisha Smoke, Cinnamon
Heart: Kentucky Tobacco Absolute, Vanilla, Oakmoss
Base: Bourbon Vanilla, Licorice, Orcanox™, Iso E Super, Clary Sage
Performance
- Longevity: strong: most wearers report 8–10 hours or more, with some reporting well beyond that and traces on clothing the next day. A minority report closer to 6–7 hours, so results vary with skin and spray count.
- Sillage: moderate to strong for the first couple of hours, then a steady warm trail rather than a room-filler.
- Projection: a few feet on a generous application early on, settling to arm's length. Two or three sprays is plenty; this is an easy fragrance to overdo.
Best Occasions & Season
- Season: autumn and winter. The smoke, tobacco and vanilla turn cloying in heat and humidity.
- Occasions: evenings, bars, dinners and night out wear.
- Skip for: the office and any close, warm, shared space; this one announces itself.
- Gender: unisex, leaning masculine in how it is usually worn.

FAQ
Does it contain oud?
No. There is no agarwood in Smoking Hot. The dark, resinous depth people sometimes read as oud comes from the tobacco, the smoke accord and Orcanox in the base.
How does it compare to Kilian Back to Black?
Back to Black is the house's classic honeyed tobacco, softer, sweeter and more rounded. Smoking Hot is drier and smokier, with the apple and cinnamon giving it a sharper, more modern opening.
Is the apple realistic?
It is a flavoured-tobacco apple rather than a fresh-fruit one, deliberately closer to shisha than to an orchard. Some wearers love that; others find the opening synthetic. It calms considerably after the first hour.
Is it too sweet for a man to wear?
Most wearers report the opposite: the smoke and tobacco dry it out quickly, and the drydown reads warm and woody rather than sugary.
