Zoologist Bee Extrait

Description

Bee is honey with the whole hive attached: beeswax, royal jelly and ginger over a meadow of mimosa, broom and heliotrope. Composed by Cristiano Canali for the Toronto house Zoologist and released in 2019, it was a finalist in the independent category of the Art and Olfaction Awards 2020. The opening pairs orange and a ginger-syrup accord with a royal jelly accord and real beeswax. The heart is powdery yellow florals, and the base is vanilla, benzoin, labdanum, tonka, sandalwood and musk. It is big, sweet and theatrical: one Parfumo reviewer called it deliciously campy and over the top, and that is meant as praise.

Scent Character

Translation: sweet leads, from honey, vanilla and tonka, with a strong floral second of mimosa and heliotrope. The woody, spicy and resinous shares are sandalwood, ginger and the benzoin-labdanum warmth underneath.

No. The deeper, resinous warmth comes from benzoin and labdanum in the base, with beeswax adding a slightly animalic edge.
