Xerjoff Casamorati 1888 Mefisto EDP
Description
Mefisto is one of the original fragrances in Casamorati 1888, Xerjoff’s revival of a real 19th-century Italian perfumery-and-pharmacy house: a warmer, old-world register than Xerjoff’s main opulent line. Released in 2009, it’s a citrus aromatic built on Amalfi lemon, bergamot, and grapefruit, softened by a lavender-iris-rose heart and finished with a woody, musky base of sandalwood, Virginia cedar, and amber. Note: this is the original Mefisto, a related 2018 release, Mefisto Gentiluomo, uses a different, violet-forward formula, so don’t confuse the two.
Scent Character
- Fresh: 40%
- Woody: 25%
- Floral: 20%
- Sweet: 15%
Translation: this is citrus-forward first, with a woody, musky base doing the grounding, bright but not sweet, refined rather than loud.
Fragrance Pyramid

Heart: Lavender, Iris, Rose
Base: Musk, Sandalwood, Virginia Cedar, Amber
Performance
As is typical for citrus-aromatic compositions, expect moderate longevity (roughly 4-6 hours) since the vivid citrus top fades faster than a resinous or ambery base. Sillage is moderate: present without overwhelming, a smart daytime pick.

FAQ
Is this the same as Mefisto Gentiluomo?
No. This is the original 2009 Mefisto. Mefisto Gentiluomo is a related but distinct 2018 release with a different, violet-forward formula. Don’t confuse the two when comparing notes online.
Is Casamorati 1888 part of the main Xerjoff line?
It’s a Xerjoff-owned sub-line built around a real 19th-century Italian perfumery-and-pharmacy house: a warmer, more old-world aesthetic than Xerjoff’s flagship opulent designs, at a comparatively accessible price point.
Is this a summer fragrance?
Yes. Its citrus-aromatic structure is built for spring and summer, unlike many of Xerjoff’s heavier amber releases.
Who is Mefisto for?
Anyone who wants an authentic niche citrus aromatic with more depth than a mainstream cologne, without the boutique-amber intensity of Xerjoff’s main line.
