Description

Spicebomb Extreme is the version most people actually mean when they say they like Spicebomb. Released in 2015 and composed by Carlos Benaïm and Jean-Christophe Hérault, it takes the 2012 original's grenade-bottle idea and swaps the bright pink-pepper opening for cinnamon, saffron and cumin, then drops it onto a base of tobacco, bourbon vanilla and labdanum. The result is denser, creamier and considerably warmer than the EDT, less a fresh spicy fragrance than a smoky, boozy one.

How It Differs From the Rest of the Spicebomb Line

Every Spicebomb is built on a spicy core, but they diverge sharply after that. Spicebomb EDT (2012, Olivier Polge) is the original, brighter, more pepper-and-citrus, and noticeably lighter. Extreme, this one, is the warm, dense tobacco-vanilla reading and the one most often recommended for cold weather. Infrared and Night Vision are the lighter EDTs, and Dark Leather pushes into leather territory. If someone told you Spicebomb was too sharp, Extreme is the answer to that complaint.

Scent Character

  • Spicy: 50%
  • Sweet: 21%
  • Smoky & Boozy: 20%
  • Fresh: 9%

Translation: spice takes fully half the profile (cinnamon, saffron and cumin, not a subtle blend) with the sweetness coming from bourbon vanilla rather than sugar, and a fifth of the composition given over to the tobacco-and-labdanum smoke that defines the drydown.

Fragrance Pyramid

  • Top: Black Pepper, Pimento, Grapefruit
  • Heart: Cinnamon, Saffron, Cumin, Lavender
  • Base: Tobacco, Bourbon Vanilla, Labdanum, Amber, Cistus

Performance

Longevity: Strong, 8 hours or more is commonly reported.
Sillage: Substantial, especially in the first hours.
Projection: Heavy early, then a warm, close tobacco-vanilla trail.

An honest note: the cumin is the deciding factor and it is divisive. Worn well it reads as warm and skin-like; on some people, and in heat, it reads as sweat. That is the single most common criticism of this fragrance and no description will tell you which way it goes on you. It is also genuinely potent. This is not a fragrance to over-apply.

Best Occasions & Season

Built for Fall and Winter, and suited to Evening and Special Occasion wear. The tobacco and vanilla base is cold-weather material, and the cumin behaves considerably better in cool air than in summer heat. Its size makes it a bold choice for close quarters.

Try Before You Commit

Because the cumin divides people so sharply, this is a fragrance worth meeting on skin before buying a bottle of it. Venba's five-piece Spicebomb Set ($20.99) includes a 1mL of Extreme alongside the original EDT, Infrared, Dark Leather and Night Vision, which also settles the more useful question of which Spicebomb suits you, rather than just whether this one does.

FAQ

What is the difference between Spicebomb and Spicebomb Extreme?
The original EDT is brighter and more peppery; Extreme is an Eau de Parfum built on cinnamon, saffron and cumin over tobacco and vanilla. It is warmer, denser and longer-lasting rather than simply stronger.

Why do some people say it smells like sweat?
That is the cumin. It is a real note in the heart and it interacts heavily with skin chemistry. The same fragrance reads as warm and inviting on one person and sharp on another.

Does it contain oud?
No. There is no agarwood in it. The dark, smoky depth is tobacco absolute and labdanum.

Is it a winter-only fragrance?
Close to it. The tobacco-vanilla base and the cumin both behave far better in cold air, and most wearers find it heavy in summer.
