Description

Green Stravaganza takes the coffee note that made Born in Roma famous and pours cold citrus over it. Released in 2024 as the summer-facing flanker in Valentino's Uomo line, it opens on Calabrian bergamot and green mandarin with a clary-sage sharpness, keeps the line's signature coffee in the heart, and dries down on vetiver, cedar and guaiac wood. The contrast is the whole point: acidic, almost bitter citrus against sweet, creamy coffee liqueur. Where the original Born in Roma is dark and vanillic, this one is green, bright and considerably more casual.

How It Differs From the Other Uomo Born in Roma Flankers

The Uomo line has fanned out into several directions and they are genuinely different wearing experiences. Coral Fantasy is the tropical, fruit-forward summer option. Intense is the concentrated, vanilla-heavy evening version of the original. Extradose pushes further into sweet, dense territory again. Green Stravaganza is the outlier and the lightest of the set, the only one built around a green, aromatic citrus structure rather than sweetness. Choose it if the rest of the line has always read as too sweet for daytime; choose Intense or Extradose if you want presence and longevity above all.

Scent Character

  • Woody: 34%
  • Sweet: 34%
  • Fresh: 32%

Translation: an almost even three-way split, and that balance is exactly what the fragrance is doing, vetiver and guaiac woods underneath, coffee sweetness in the middle, bright bergamot on top, with none of the three allowed to take over.

Fragrance Pyramid

  • Top: Calabrian Bergamot, Green Mandarin, Clary Sage
  • Heart: Coffee, Geranium
  • Base: Vetiver, Cedar, Guaiac Wood

Performance

Longevity: Genuinely divided. See the note below.
Sillage: Modest. A close, clean trail rather than a room-filler.
Projection: Noticeable for the first hour, then close to the skin.

An honest note on performance: this is the most contested thing about Green Stravaganza and we would rather flag it than sell around it. Reported longevity ranges from roughly ninety minutes at the low end to about six hours at the high end, with no clear pattern beyond individual skin chemistry. It is an Eau de Toilette built on citrus and green notes, and that structure is inherently short-lived. If you are used to the Intense or Extradose versions, expect materially less staying power here. This is precisely the case where a decant costs less than a disappointing full bottle.

Best Occasions & Season

Built for Spring, Summer and Fall, and suited to Everyday and Leisure wear. The green-citrus opening handles heat well, and the low projection makes it safe for close quarters: offices, commutes, daytime plans. It is a comfortable default rather than a statement.

Try Before You Commit

Given how widely reported longevity varies on this one, sampling is not optional advice. It is the sensible way to buy it. Wear it a full day on your own skin before committing to a bottle. A 1mL decant is $4.99, 5mL is $20.99, and 10mL is $33.99, all hand-poured from genuine retail bottles.

FAQ

Does it actually smell like coffee?
Yes, but not as the dominant note. The coffee sits in the heart as a sweet, creamy, liqueur-like accord underneath the citrus, rather than the roasted espresso effect some gourmand fragrances go for.

How is it different from the original Born in Roma?
The original is darker, sweeter and more vanilla-driven. Green Stravaganza replaces most of that weight with green citrus and vetiver, making it lighter, fresher and better suited to warm weather.

Is it good for summer?
It is arguably the best of the Uomo line for hot weather. The green-citrus structure is built for it, and the modest projection means heat will not amplify it uncomfortably.

Why does it not last long on me?
Eau de Toilette concentration plus a citrus-and-green top structure is a combination that fades faster than woody or vanillic fragrances. Applying to clothing and reapplying midday both help considerably.
