Changing Constance is a briny, caramel-tobacco gourmand: pimento and cardamom over a heart of caramel and sea salt, finished with vanilla, cashmeran and tobacco.

Composed by perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou for Penhaligon’s Portraits collection and launched in 2018, Changing Constance is styled for the modern woman. Warm, sweet and grounded rather than delicate. Cardamom and pimento seeds open with a spiced kick, a heart of caramel and salt gives it its signature sweet-savory tension, and the fragrance settles into a soft, woody base of vanilla, cashmeran and tobacco. The salt is doing real work here: it keeps the caramel from tipping into dessert territory.
