Description

Dior Sauvage EDP is the smoother, sweeter reinterpretation of the best-selling men's fragrance of the last decade. Released in 2018 by Dior's in-house perfumer François Demachy, three years after the original 2015 Eau de Toilette, the Eau de Parfum keeps Sauvage's fresh-spicy bergamot opening but rounds off the sharp ambroxan edge that some found harsh, folding in star anise, nutmeg, and vanilla for a warmer, more "suave and enveloping" character. Widely available at Dior boutiques and department stores, it's the version most reviewers point to when they say Sauvage "grew up."

Scent Character

Sauvage EDP reads as fresh-spicy up top and warm-ambery-sweet underneath: a bright bergamot and pepper opening gives way to a smooth, vanilla-laced amber base built mainly on ambroxan. It's noticeably sweeter and rounder than the original EDT, without losing the fresh-spicy signature that made Sauvage a phenomenon.

Try Before You Commit

Sauvage EDP, EDT, and Parfum are close cousins with real differences in sweetness and weight. Sampling first is the simplest way to find out which one actually suits you. A 1mL sample ($4.99) is enough for a first impression of the anise-vanilla warmth; the 5mL ($16.99) and 10mL ($29.99) let you wear it across multiple days before deciding. If it's a match, the 3.4 oz / 100 ml retail bottle carries a price of $149.99.

FAQ

How is Sauvage EDP different from the EDT and Parfum?
The 2015 EDT is the sharper, more aggressive original built around Calabrian bergamot and ambroxan-cedar-labdanum. The 2018 EDP (this version) smooths and sweetens it with star anise, nutmeg, and vanilla. The 2019 Parfum goes further still, deepening the amber and tonka for the richest, longest-lasting version of the three.

Does Sauvage EDP last longer than the EDT?
Generally yes. The added vanilla and heavier ambroxan base tend to give the EDP more staying power on skin than the original EDT.

Is Sauvage EDP too sweet for daytime wear?
No. The bergamot-pepper opening keeps it fresh enough for daytime, though the vanilla-forward drydown is where it earns its "evening fragrance" reputation.

Who is Sauvage EDP best for?
Anyone who likes the original Sauvage's fresh-spicy DNA but wants a rounder, sweeter, less aggressive version, or anyone who found the 2015 EDT too sharp.
