Description

The 2025 edition is Francis Kurkdjian's rewrite of Dior Homme Parfum, the same iris-and-amber idea, composed with a lighter hand. Kurkdjian has been Dior's perfume creative director since 2021, and this release reworks the Parfum that François Demachy created in 2014. The iris is still the centre of it, but the makeup-powder quality that defined the earlier versions has been dialled back in favour of a warmer, ambery-woody drydown over patchouli and vetiver. It is smoother, more modern and easier to wear than what came before it, and that is exactly why the reaction to it has been split. Read the comparison below before you buy: which version you want is the whole question with this one.

How It Differs From Dior Homme Parfum (the Original)

  • The original, François Demachy's 2014 composition, leads with a much more assertive iris, cooler and more powdery, with leather in the heart. It is the version that built the reputation, and it is the one enthusiasts mean when they talk about the Dior Homme signature.
  • The 2025 edition keeps the iris but softens and warms it, pushing the composition toward ambery woods. Reviewers who value wearability call it the better daily fragrance; reviewers who valued the original's distinctiveness call it more conventional.
  • Both are listed on this site. If you already love the original, sample this one before assuming it is a straight replacement. The difference is real, and opinion on it is genuinely divided rather than merely nostalgic.

Scent Character

This listing describes the scent in words rather than percentages. The stored breakdown for this product is incomplete and includes an oud share that does not correspond to any agarwood in the published formula, so printing it would misdescribe the fragrance.

  • Iris, the spine of it, but softer and less cosmetic-powdery than the earlier versions.
  • Amber, the warmth that separates this edition from its predecessors; sweetish, resinous, rounded.
  • Woody-earthy: patchouli and vetiver underneath, giving it grip and a dry finish.

Translation: a warm powdery iris on an ambery-woody base. Elegant and smooth rather than sharp or challenging, closer to a polished everyday signature than to a statement piece.

Fragrance Notes

Top: Iris

Heart: Amber

Base: Patchouli, Vetiver

Note: Dior publishes a deliberately minimal structure for this release, four materials, one idea. This page lists exactly what the house discloses rather than filling in a longer pyramid that would be guesswork.

Performance

  • Longevity: strong. Wearers commonly report 8–10 hours and more on skin, with considerably longer on clothing. Performance is one of the few things reviewers of this edition consistently agree on.
  • Sillage: moderate and close-wearing. It is softer than the 2014 and 2020 versions, which is a frequent criticism from wearers who wanted a projector.
  • Projection, around arm's length for the first hour or two, then a long, persistent skin scent.
  • The honest summary: it lasts a long time without shouting. If your reason for buying Dior Homme Parfum is a trail people notice from across a room, this edition is not that.

Best Occasions & Season

  • Season: Fall and Winter first, cool Spring evenings second. The amber-patchouli base is too warm for peak summer heat.
  • Occasions: evening, dinners, special occasions, and office wear where a close-wearing scent is an advantage rather than a limitation.
  • Skip for: hot weather and gym or beach settings.
  • Gender: catalogued as a men's fragrance and it leans masculine, but a powdery iris amber is not inherently gendered and it wears well on anyone who likes the profile.

FAQ

Is this the same as the original Dior Homme Parfum? No. This is the 2025 edition composed by Francis Kurkdjian; the original is François Demachy's 2014 composition. They share the iris-and-amber idea, but the 2025 is warmer, softer and less powdery. Both are listed on this site separately.

Is the 2025 version worse? That depends on what you want from it, and we would rather say so than pretend the debate does not exist. Enthusiasts who prized the original's distinctive powdery iris tend to find this one more conventional. Wearers coming to it fresh generally find it smooth, versatile and easy to wear. Sampling settles it faster than reading reviews.

How long does it last? 8–10 hours and often more on skin, longer on fabric. The projection is moderate rather than loud, so it lasts longer than it announces itself.

Does it contain oud? No. There is no agarwood in the published formula. The depth comes from amber, patchouli and vetiver.
