Penhaligon's Juniper Sling EDT
Description
Juniper Sling is a London dry gin cocktail in a bottle: crisp juniper, a splash of orange brandy, and warm spice underneath. Penhaligon's launched it in 2011, and Olivier Cresp built it around the house's home spirit, London Dry Gin, and the cocktail bars of the 1920s. Juniper berry, angelica, cinnamon and orange brandy open it cold and bright, the heart adds cardamom, black pepper, orris and a light leather, and the base is brown sugar, black cherry, vetiver and ambrox. Reviewers agree the clean gin accord is the best part: dry, sparkling and slightly bitter, with the sugar and cherry only showing in the drydown.
Fragrance Pyramid
- Top: Juniper Berry, Orange Brandy, Angelica, Cinnamon
- Heart: Cardamom, Black Pepper, Orris, Leather
- Base: Brown Sugar, Black Cherry, Vetiver, Ambrox
Performance
Longevity: Typically 4–6 hours on skin, with some wearers getting more and some less.
Sillage: Soft to moderate. It wears like a refined cologne.
Projection: Arm's length at first, then close to the skin.
An honest note: performance is the most common complaint about Juniper Sling. Reports range from a couple of hours to a full day, and several reviewers say the gin note fades quickly in cold weather. Spray clothing as well as skin, and expect to reapply.
