Mind Games Opera Mate Extrait
Description
Opera Mate is a woody amber extrait built around a caramelized, smoking-jacket kind of warmth. Created by perfumer Christelle Laprade for Mind Games, the Los Angeles niche house where every fragrance is named for a chess term, Opera Mate takes its name from the "Opera Game," the famous 1858 checkmate Paul Morphy delivered at the Paris Opera House. Laprade opens the fragrance with roasted chestnut and grapefruit zest over labdanum, folds in a crème brûlée heart, and finishes on sandalwood, suede, and caramel. She's described the effect as a deliberate contrast between "familiar, comforting sweetness" and "luxurious, elevated ingredients": gourmand, but grown-up.
