Memo Paris Winter Palace EDP
Description
Winter Palace is a citrus-and-tea fragrance built on a contrast between cold and warm. Memo Paris describes it as fire and ice. Lemon, bergamot and a pinch of clove open it sharp and bright; a heart of red tea, maté and orange blossom turns it soft and infused; then benzoin, labdanum and vanilla settle underneath like cream stirred into the cup. Composed by Aliénor Massenet in 2019, it is classed as an aromatic green rather than a gourmand, and the finished effect is close to a warm citrus tea, comforting without being sweet.
A note on the name: despite the imperial-Russian associations the title suggests, Memo's own account places the inspiration in China and its imperial palaces. The scent has no pine, birch or heavy incense in it.
Scent Character
Winter Palace splits almost evenly between two characters, which is what gives it the fire-and-ice tension:
- Fresh & citrus: lemon and bergamot up front, kept lively by clove and the tannic bite of red tea and maté.
- Soft & creamy: benzoin, labdanum and vanilla underneath, rounding the citrus off rather than sweetening it.
Translation: a creamy citrus tea. It reads fresh in the first ten minutes and comforting for the rest of the wear, and it never crosses into dessert territory.
Fragrance Pyramid
Top: Lemon, Bergamot, Clove
Heart: Red Tea, Maté, Orange Blossom
Base: Vanilla, Benzoin, Labdanum
Performance
- Longevity: 6–8 hours. Solid rather than monstrous; the citrus opening burns off within the hour and the tea-and-benzoin body is what carries it.
- Sillage: soft and close to the skin. This is an intimate fragrance by design, not a room-filler.
- Projection: roughly one to two feet for the first hour, then it hugs the skin.
Best Occasions & Season
- Season: Fall, Winter and Spring. The warm-tea centre suits cool weather, and the citrus keeps it from feeling heavy in milder months.
- Occasions: Everyday, leisure and evening. The quiet sillage makes it a genuinely easy office and travel fragrance.
- Gender: Unisex, and one of the more evenly balanced unisex compositions in the Memo line.
- Skip for: anyone wanting projection and compliments from across a room. This one rewards the people who get close.

FAQ
Is Winter Palace a Russian-themed fragrance?
The name invites the assumption, but Memo Paris attributes the inspiration to China and its imperial palaces. There's no Siberian pine, birch tar or heavy church incense in it. The composition is citrus, tea and soft resins.
Does it actually smell like tea?
Yes, recognisably so. Red tea (rooibos) and maté sit at the centre of the composition and stay legible for most of the wear, with lemon and bergamot above them and a creamy benzoin-vanilla base underneath.
How long does it last?
Six to eight hours with soft, close-to-skin sillage. The citrus opening is the shortest-lived part; the tea and benzoin do the work after the first hour.
Is it for men or women?
Unisex, and genuinely so. There's no powdery-floral or sharp-aromatic tilt either way, a citrus tea with a creamy base reads well on anyone.
