Description

Safran Secret is saffron treated as an atmosphere rather than a spice rack. Maison Crivelli built it as the opening chapter of its Olfactory Mysteries collection, with perfumer Gaël Montero of Givaudan working alongside founder Thibaud Crivelli. The composition existed first as a boutique exclusive made for the Prague retailer Ingredients, and this extrait is its wider release. Saffron sits at the centre, leathery and faintly sweet, wrapped in resin and set on a bed of pale dry woods. Reviewers reach for the same two images repeatedly: a spice market at dusk, and the back corner of a dimly lit bar.

Scent Character

Translation: a dry woody skeleton carrying a large, warm spice accord. There is no fruit and no florals to soften it, which is why it feels serious rather than cosy.

FAQ

Does it contain oud?
No. The darkness here comes from saffron, resins and dry blonde woods. There is no agarwood in the composition.

How is the extrait different from the original version?
This is the concentrated extrait de parfum release of a composition that first circulated as a boutique exclusive. It is the version Maison Crivelli sells internationally today, and it is what we decant.

Is it sweet?
Only slightly. Saffron carries a natural sweetness and the resins add a balsamic warmth, but there is no vanilla or gourmand sweetness underneath it.
