Lorenzo Pazzaglia built his house in Cagli, Italy on the smells of his own family kitchen, so when the chef-turned-perfumer decided to make a "cherry" fragrance, he skipped the candy-syrup cliché. Cherry Ink Extrait opens on a rush of macerated black cherry and sour cherry, sharpened by black pepper and a boozy rum accord, then veers somewhere darker and stranger: a literal ink note tangled up with red wine, damask rose and myrrh, closer to a Gothic library than a fruit bowl. It settles into a warm, powdery base of vanilla, tonka, amber and a trace of genuine agarwood. Sweet enough to seduce, odd enough to remember, that's the Pazzaglia signature.
