Indult Tihota EDP
Description
Tihota is the fragrance most people mean when they say they want "just vanilla." Francis Kurkdjian composed it for Indult in 2006, years before his own house made him a household name, and it has been the reference point for pure vanilla ever since. There is no fruit, no smoke, no booze and no flowers hiding in it, just the highest grade of Tahitian vanilla, softened with cane sugar and an almond-milk accord, and settled onto tonka bean, white musk and amber. The name comes from a Tahitian word for the vanilla flower. Reviewers have called it the holy grail of vanilla perfumes for close to two decades, and the reason is restraint: where most vanillas reach for gourmand tricks, Tihota simply renders the material extremely well and stops there.
How It Differs From Indult Manakara
- Manakara: Indult's floral, a rose-led composition, brighter and built for spring and summer wear.
- Tihota: the gourmand of the pair. Warm, sweet, edible and cold-weather by nature, with none of Manakara's floral lift.
- Which to choose: Manakara if you want something airy and floral; Tihota if you want the vanilla itself, undiluted. They share a house sensibility (soft, close-wearing, unshowy) but sit in opposite halves of the wardrobe.
Scent Character
Tihota is a vanilla soliflore, and the honest way to describe it is in words rather than percentages, a scent that is almost entirely one material does not divide usefully into an accord chart.
- Dominant: Tahitian vanilla, creamy and slightly floral rather than the dark, boozy vanilla of a bourbon variety.
- Supporting: cane sugar and an almond-milk accord give it a lactonic, custard-like softness. This is where the frequent "cookies and cream" comparison comes from.
- Base: tonka bean, white musk and amber keep it warm and skin-like rather than sugary.
Translation: a rich, milky, real vanilla with no gourmand costume around it. Sweet, but closer to vanilla custard than to dessert.
Fragrance Notes
Indult publishes Tihota as a single note set rather than a three-tier pyramid, which suits a fragrance that wears almost linearly from first spray to drydown:
Notes: Tahitian Vanilla, Cane Sugar, Almond Milk Accord, Tonka Bean, White Musk, Amber
Note: Tihota has been produced in waves since its 2006 debut, including a more recent reissue. The composition has remained consistent in character; this listing reflects current-era production.
Performance
- Longevity: excellent, 8–10 hours and often longer on skin, considerably more on fabric. Vanilla and tonka are heavy, slow-evaporating materials and it shows.
- Sillage: intimate. This is the split that surprises people: Tihota lasts a very long time but stays remarkably close, wearing more like a scented veil than a projecting perfume.
- Projection: roughly an arm's length in the first hour, then a skin scent that persists for the rest of the day.
- Worth knowing: if you want a vanilla that fills a room, this is the wrong one. Its reputation rests on realism and staying power, not on trail. Wearers who love it tend to love exactly that quality.
Best Occasions & Season
- Season: Fall and Winter. The warmth and the sweetness both land better in cold air; in high heat it can turn cloying.
- Occasions: Everyday wear, evenings, and cold-weather comfort wear. Its closeness makes it workable in an office where a louder gourmand would not be.
- Gender: Catalogued as a women's fragrance, and it does lean feminine, but a straight vanilla is not an inherently gendered thing, and Tihota is worn widely by everyone.
- Skip for: hot summer days, and anyone who finds sweet gourmands overwhelming.

Try Before You Commit
Vanilla is one of the most skin-dependent materials there is. Tihota reads as creamy custard on some wearers and as a much sweeter, sugarier scent on others. A decant settles it before you commit: 1mL from $8.99, against $210.00 for the 50ml bottle.

FAQ
Is Tihota really just vanilla?
Essentially yes. There is cane sugar, an almond-milk accord, tonka, musk and amber in support, but they exist to round the vanilla rather than to add a second character. If you want vanilla with tobacco, booze or fruit layered over it, this is not that fragrance.
How long does it last, and will people notice it?
It lasts a long time: 8–10 hours or more, but it sits close to the skin. Expect people to notice it when they are near you, not across a room.
Is this the original 2006 formula?
Tihota has been produced in waves rather than continuously since 2006, and Indult reissued it more recently. Wearers consistently report the character as unchanged; this listing reflects current-era production rather than a vintage bottle.
How does it compare to other cult vanillas?
Most well-known vanillas are vanilla plus something: smoke, rum, tobacco, praline. Tihota is the comparison point precisely because it is not: it is the material rendered cleanly at high quality. That makes it either exactly what you want or slightly too simple, depending on what you came for.
