Description

Musc Ravageur is the musk that made "musk" stop meaning clean laundry. Composed by Maurice Roucel for Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle in 2000, it opens with lavender, bergamot and tangerine, turns quickly to cinnamon and clove, then sinks into a warm, slightly animalic base of musk, vanilla, amber, tonka and sandalwood. It is regularly described as a modern take on the classic Shalimar-style amber (spicier, skinnier and more sensual) and after more than twenty years it remains one of the house's signatures.

Scent Character

Translation: a sweet vanilla-amber core leads, framed by sandalwood and a lavender-citrus opening; the spice and ambery warmth are small in share but do a lot of the talking in the first hour.

An honest note: the opening is bold, cinnamon and clove over musk, and it is easy to overapply. Two sprays is plenty. The drydown is where most people fall for it: a soft, skin-like musky vanilla that lasts well into the night.
