Essential Parfums Divine Vanille EDP
Description
Divine Vanille is Olivier Pescheux's vanilla for Essential Parfums, released in 2019, and it is the rare one that puts vanilla front and centre without collapsing into sugar.
Cinnamon, black pepper and clary sage open it. As incense and resins develop the vanilla turns smokier rather than sweeter, with Venezuelan tonka adding an almond-like, faintly boozy edge close to spiced rum. Green Indonesian patchouli is the counterweight that keeps richly balsamic Siam benzoin in check. Reviewers describe it as lush but light, and almost-gourmand without ever quite becoming one.

Performance
Longevity: Moderate to good. The vanilla-benzoin base outlasts the peppery opening by a comfortable margin.
Sillage: Moderate. It reads as lush without projecting hard, which is a large part of why it stays wearable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a sweet vanilla?
Less than the name suggests. Incense, benzoin and patchouli pull it toward smoky and resinous, and most wearers describe it as notably un-syrupy for a vanilla.
Does it contain oud?
No. The smokiness comes from incense and Siam benzoin. There is no agarwood in this composition.
Is it unisex?
Yes. The pepper, sage and patchouli give it enough structure that it does not read as a feminine gourmand.
