d'Annam White Rice EDP
Description
White Rice is d'Annam's tribute to Vietnam's cultural staple: white jasmine rice, present at nearly every Vietnamese meal. Composed by Anh Ngo with IFF and released in 2023.
It opens on pandan, the sweet green leaf used across South-East Asian cooking, which reads almost like a watery vanilla. Then comes the subtle nuttiness of freshly steamed rice, drifting toward white musk shaded with orris, cedar, tonka and jasmine. One reviewer captured it well: warm steamed rice, soft cotton, clean skin, a freshly laundered blanket on a rainy afternoon.
Scent Character
- Sweet: 36% (pandan, tonka bean)
- Woody: 36% (cedarwood, white musk)
- Floral: 29% (jasmine, orris root)
Translation: milky, powdery rice with a green-sweet pandan lift and clean musk underneath. Understated and precise rather than showy.
Fragrance Pyramid
- Top: Rice, Pandanus
- Heart: Orris Root, Jasmine
- Base: White Musk, Tonka Bean, Cedarwood
Performance
Longevity: Moderate. The house designed this explicitly as a skin scent, and it behaves like one: expect closeness rather than hours of projection.
Sillage: Soft and intimate by intention. If you want to be noticed across a room, this is not the fragrance; if you want to smell clean and considered up close, it is exactly right.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it smell like food?
Not really. Rice here reads as milky and powdery rather than edible, closer to clean laundry and warm skin than to a meal.
What is pandan?
A South-East Asian leaf used to sweeten and colour desserts. In fragrance it lands as a soft, green, faintly vanillic note, and it is what gives White Rice its lift.
How does it compare to Pomelo Oolong?
Same house, same perfumer, similar restraint. Pomelo Oolong is a tea-citrus; White Rice is milkier and more powdery. Both are quiet by design.
