Description

Byredo's original Rose Noir, released in 2008, takes the classic Damascena rose and gives it a darker, more sensual edge. Grapefruit, freesia, and cardamom open bright before a full rose heart (raspberry, jasmine, violet, lily-of-the-valley) settles into a mossy, musky base of patchouli and labdanum. It's one of Byredo's earliest releases, credited to longtime house collaborator Jérôme Epinette.

  • Floral: 34%
  • Fresh: 25%
  • Earthy/Resinous: 17%
  • Woody: 12%
  • Spicy: 8%
  • Sweet: 4%

Translation: a bright, fruity-floral rose deepened with mossy, resinous patchouli rather than a heavy classic rose.

FAQ

Is this unisex?
Yes.

Does it contain real oud?
No. The depth comes from moss, patchouli, and labdanum, not agarwood.

How is this different from Rose of No Man's Land?
Rose Noir is darker and mossier; Rose of No Man's Land leans brighter, built around Turkey red rose and raspberry.

What's the longevity like?
Moderate-to-good: reviewer reports range from 6 to over 10 hours.
