• Jubilation 40 (Extrait): blackberry, blackcurrant and rosemary over a heart of Scotch broom, frankincense and cinnamon, with myrrh, patchouli and ambergris in the base. Dark fruit and incense, rich and resinous.
• Beach Hut Man (EDP): mint, galbanum and orange blossom, then ivy, moss and vetiver over patchouli, myrrh and dry woods. Green and cool, the freshest of the seven.
• Reflection 45 Man (Extrait): pink pepper, clary sage, cardamom and benzoin, a heart of neroli, orris, jasmine, tonka and vanilla, and a base of sandalwood, vetiver and frankincense. A creamier, deeper reading of Reflection Man.
• Reflection Man (EDP): rosemary, pink pepper and petitgrain, then jasmine, neroli, orris and ylang-ylang over sandalwood, vetiver and cedar. Clean, powdery and floral-woody.
• Opus XIV Royal Tobacco (EDP): frankincense, cardamom, basil and bergamot over a heart of tobacco absolute, liquorice, lavender and osmanthus, settling on benzoin, labdanum, tonka and vanilla. Sweet, smoky tobacco with a resin glow.
• Interlude 53 Man (Extrait): bergamot, oregano and pimento berry, then frankincense, amber, cistus and opoponax over leather, agarwood, patchouli and sandalwood. Smoky, dry and dramatic.
• Overture Man (EDP): a cognac accord with grapefruit, cardamom, saffron and nutmeg, a heart of cinnamon, benzoin and myrrh, and a base of smoky leather, sandalwood and incense. Boozy spice over leather.

How To Use a Discovery Set

Each 1mL sample comes in a 2mL vial filled halfway, so the vial will look half full. That is the correct amount, and it gives you roughly 15 sprays. Every vial is labeled with the fragrance name.

Wear one fragrance a day, on skin rather than a paper strip, and give it the whole day. The first ten minutes are the loudest and least representative part of any fragrance; judge it at hour three. Once you have a shortlist of two, wear them on opposite wrists and compare. With Amouage, the extraits are concentrated, so start with a single spray; and wear Reflection Man and Reflection 45 Man on opposite wrists to hear what the extra strength changes.
